Welcome to the world of Neemo Childcare! We are excited to announce the opening of our Childcare Centre – a brand new, purpose built facility in the heart of Hillcrest.
Our brand new facility is a friendly, warm and bright place and we strive to provide an environment filled with laughter and fun for children aged 0-5 years. Our indoor and outdoor environments will enable children to explore their surroundings and resources while making their own connections and building their social and emotional intelligence.
Our philosophy at Neemo Childcare Centre is to provide a tailored approach to your child’s education. We offer internationally recognised programs and Te Whāriki (the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum) drives our practices.
We believe that a child's home and place of care play equivalent parts in their emotional and intellectual growth, and we look for opportunities to connect the two. We embrace all cultures and celebrate diversity with our children at the Centre, and encourage children to embrace different experiences. We encourage parents to share in their children's experiences and growth by participating in the centre's family activities and keeping an open line of communication with the Centre. We believe in an open-door policy and desire our brand-new centre to be a home away from home.
Our opening hours are 7 am to 6 pm. We provide healthy cooked meals that are prepared on-site by our centre chef. We hope you find the information on our website useful. If you have any questions or would like to enrol, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to welcoming you into our Centre.
Neemo stands for – Nurturing Early Education Moppet’s Oranga. Our vision is to foster intellectual curiosity and create lifelong learners.
We wanted to create more than just a normal daycare – we wanted to create a space for children which provides them with endless opportunities to learn, explore and experiment within their environment. A place where teachers, parents, whānau and the wider community can come together to cater to the needs of children in their vital years. At the heart of this was to ensure the wellbeing of children. We have created an inviting and warm environment where children are respected, valued and nurtured with interesting indoor and outdoor areas, beautiful and meaningful resources and an experienced teaching team, who believe that “the children are at the heart of the matter”.
Welcome to the Koru Room - this room is for our 0-2 year old children. This room provides a nurturing and warm environment which enables children to settle, explore and build strong relationships with the world around them. Each child is unique in their own way of learning and thinking and we provide many opportunities to support and extend each child’s interests, strengths and abilities. Our practices are focussed on caring for and respecting infants and toddlers, and are underpinned by Te Whāriki, the New Zealand early childhood curriculum. This approach is focussed on respect and trust in the child to be an initiator, an explorer, and a self-learner. “Infants and toddlers are competent and capable individuals with ongoing developing abilities to communicate, problem-solve and self-soothe” (Magda Gerber).
Infants typically set their own routines and rhythms. We aim, to the best of our abilities, to maintain routines that are consistent to home. This involves a consistent routine, respectful and reciprocal interaction with children to meet their specific needs.
We provide a rich, safe, unhurried and challenging learning environment that encompass a wide range of curriculum areas including story time, music time, messy play, visual arts, dance, pretend play, sensory play, sand play, and water play for the children to engage in, explore, and learn with in their own unique way at their own pace.
Welcome to the Kaponga Room - this room if for our 2-5 year olds. Here we continue to nurture and care for children and this room provides further experiences to prepare children for future challenges in life and school. This room is set out with resources to challenge every child’s ability and interests. It promotes the independence of children and encourages children to develop individually and in group settings. The children will be invited to explore and investigate a range of inspiring and intriguing set-ups. The children will be involved in group investigations, focussed on their interests to extend their learning.
Our approach is focussed on observing the interests of children while also incorporating strands of Te Whāriki. The interests of children will be extended further by providing a range learning experiences.
The Neemo team of teachers will encourage children to think for themselves, make their own decisions and work towards their solutions. The children will be encouraged to celebrate each other’s uniqueness, culture and strengths.

Our Centres Philosophy is based on five core values, and children are at the core of these values.
Our View of a child:
We believe every child is a unique and special individual. We aim to encourage each child to be a confident self-motivated learner and to provide a strong foundation for their learning journey to become life-long learners.
At Neemo Childcare Centre we provide a safe and secure environment to enable children to inquire and explore from birth. We believe that when children feel safe and secure they develop a sense of belonging and gain the confidence to notice, explore and investigate.
The role of educators
It is our role as educators is to assist children, recognise their individual needs and understand their uniqueness. The Neemo team aims to foster the development, learning and wellbeing of each individual child. The needs of each child are identified through observation and documentation of their interests, development, progress and parental input. In this way, the Neemo educator will strive to respond to and extend children's learning.
Partnership with parents and whānau – “It takes a village to raise a child”.
We believe children's lives are influenced by the adults around them. We value building strong partnerships with our families/ whānau as the first teachers of children. We believe in honest, open communications while working in partnership with families.
Acknowledging bi-culturalism and each child’s culture
We believe that the bi-cultural heritage of New Zealand is very important. We acknowledge Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand, and are committed to embracing our bicultural heritage. We believe in supporting the individual heritage and cultural identity of every child and family. We welcome and respect all families in our Centre.
Our prime goal is to facilitate and accept children with their individual uniqueness and provide them with opportunities to become confident lifelong learners. We aim to provide children with an environment which is safe and secure. Our experiences and enthusiastic teaching team encourage children always to think for themselves, make their own decisions, explore the environment and build the capability to work towards their solutions.
